15 Day Garden Route Tour


15 Day Motorcycle Tour of South Africa and Lesotho

Ride Bikers Paradise, Drakensberg and Lesotho Mountains in the North East of South Africa and then head South to ride the world-famous Garden Route between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town.

Your tour starts in Pretoria, South Africa, and makes its way across to the Panorama route where you  explore waterfalls, view sites, rock formations and twisting mountain passes, before embarking on a world class safari into Kruger National Park.

Next up you ride  through Golden Gate National Park and the mighty Drakensberg Mountains, stopping in at Underberg to enjoy a guided 4 x 4 tour up the legendary SANI PASS into Lesotho where  you will visit a local SOTHO village and enjoy a beer at the highest pub in Africa

You then reach the Indian Ocean at East London on day 7, followed by a visit to Addo Elephant National Park,  where you will be able to spot Lions, Elephants, Rhino, leopard, and Buffalo.

You are now on the famous Garden Route.

From Addo you ride beautiful mountain passes, forest meanders, and desert roads. You Stop in at Storms River Mouth , Admire the Knsyna Heads and visit the Ostriches in Oudtshoorn.

Next up you ride all the way to the Southern Most Point of Africa at Cape Agulhas and then explore the mountain passes of the Cape Wine Region. On your last day of tour you ride 0ver 200km of amazing coastal roads all the way into Cape Town.

Day 01 - Pretoria  to Magoebaskloof, South Africa (+- 317km)
Highlights: Scenic mountain passes, Long Tom Cannons

Today you make your way up into South Africa’s wild Limpopo Province. As you head up north, the roads become mountainous with beautiful views of the rolling hills below. Enjoy the great twisties and arrive at the majestic Magoebaskloof hotel, situated on the top of a beautiful mountain pass with breathtaking views of the valley below. There is a lot to do at the hotel. You can take a walk to the waterfall, spotting birds and Samango Monkeys along the way or you can chill out at the Phoenix and Fireman Pub!

Day 02- Magoebaskloof to Hazyview via the Panorama Route (+- 250km)
Highlights : God's Window, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, The Three Rondavel’s, Waterfalls, Magical Views Sites

Today you make your way down into Mpumalanga (an area known to Local Bikers as “Motorcycle Paradise”) the roads here are beautiful and curvy, and there are so many great view points, rock formations and waterfalls along the way. The route includes stops at Bourkes luck potholes, The Three Rondavels, and Gods Window.. We will arrive in Hazyview in the Late Afternoon. Tonightm enjoy a traditional African meal and African dances at the Shangana cultural village. (Meals: B,D)

Day 03 Hazyview Rest Day and Half Day Safari into Kruger National Park
Highlights: Kruger National Park

Today you  board a game viewing Safari vehicle which will transport you into the Kruger National Park. This world famous wildlife reserve is home to the BIG 5 and is roughly the size of a small country. The vastness of the park allows ample opportunity to view wild animals in their natural habitat. You will have the whole morning to spot lions, elephants, birds and many different species of animals. In the Afternoon there is an optional motorcycle ride over the Famous "Long Tom Pass"- a must for anyone who likes to ride twisties!!! (Meals: B)

Day 04- Hazyview to Clarens (+-600km)
Highlights: Golden Gate National Park

Today is a long ride through the interior of South Africa. In the late afternoon you will arrive in Clarens. This is a small arty town on the outskirts of Golden Gate National Park surrounded by beautiful Sandstone cliffs. Clarens is an artist’s paradise: poets, painters and sculptures’ from all over the world come to Clarens to witness its famous GOLDEN Sunsets. Spend the late afternoon wondering around the craft shops and have dinner in one of the numerous restaurants in town. Clarens also has its very own brewery where you can taste some local beers and ciders (Meals Included: B)

Day 05: Clarens to Underberg (+-435km)
Highlights: Majestic Drakensberg, Golden Gate National Park

Todays ride is unbelievably scenic. You ride down through the Golden Gate National Park. This park is made up of sandstone cliffs, with scenic rocks and other interesting land formations. Watch out for Antelope and Vervet monkeys crossing the road- you’re in the wild here! Your day is spent riding through the majestic Drakensberg Mountains and you should arrive in Underberg in the early afternoon. (Meals: B)

Day 06- Rest Day  Sani Pass (0-50km)
Highlights: The infamous Sani Pass  and a 4 x 4 Tour

Today we have a rest day in Underberg. We have included a 4 x 4 trip up the Sani Pass and into Lesotho- The Mountain Kingdom. If you are are very experienced at Dirt Riding- you will be able to do this tour on your motorcycle, but if you are not too confident or have a pillion, a 4 x 4 escort will be arranged. Sani Pass is a very technical ride- hairpin bends, rocky sections and vertical drop offs. Once in Lesotho (Passport required) you will enjoy a visit to a Local Lesotho Village where you can taste some local beer and later enjoy a meal at the “Highest Pub in Africa” before returning to the Underberg for the Night. Day 07: Underberg to East London (540km)
Highlights: Indian Ocean

Today is a relaxing ride through the foothills of the Drakensberg mountains. In the late Afternoon, you will arrive in East London- a small city situated on the Indian Ocean. Tonight you sleep on the beautiful beach in Chintsa- one of South Africa's most popular holiday resort towns. (Meals: B)

Day 08: East London to Addo Elephant Park (+-400km)
Highlights: Wildlife @Addo Elephant

Today you make your way through the rolling hills of the Eastern Cape to Addo Elephant National Park- home to Africa's famous BIG 5. Later you will embark on a sunset game drive in an open safari vehicle. Addo is famous for its large herds of elephants! (Meals: B)

Day 09: Addo to Tsitsikamma (220km)
Highlights: Storms River Mouth

Up early, enjoy a sunrise safari into Addo Elephant Park. Sunrise is the best time to view wildlife as the nocturnal predators are still active and make for great game viewing.  After a leisurely brunch back at camp, you will ride to Tsitsikamma National Park where your accommodation consists of wooden cabins overlooking Storms River Mouth. You will have the whole afternoon free to explore this beautiful National Park. Storms River is the start of our famous “Otter Trail” and you can can walk part of the hike down to the breathtaking suspension bridges between the sea cliffs. Other optional activities include Kayaking, treetop canopy tours, and more. Enjoy an evening spent in this very unique camp overlooking the Indian Ocean. (Meals: B)

Day 10- Tsitsikamma Rest Day (+- 0-50 km)
Highlights: Tsitsikamma Park

This is the perfect place to enjoy a rest day. Relax with the sounds and beautiful views of the Indian Ocean. There are also plenty of exciting optional activities on offer. You can join a kayaking tour to explore the Storms River Gorge or enjoy a Treetop canopy tour, Tarzan style, through a forest of gigantic trees. You may also wish to book yourself in for a spa treatment or enjoy an optional ride to explore more of the Garden Route. Other activities include Walks, Quadbiking, Segway tours, tubing, and more. Storms River is an idyllic village with many great restaurants to choose from as well as quirky little shops (Meals: B)

Day 11 : Tsitsikamma to Oudtshoorn (220km)
Highlights: Exploring  Knysna, Riding the Garden Route

Today you ride the world-famous Garden Route. The first stop is the spectacular Bloukrans Gorge. Bloukrans is home to the world Highest Bungee Jump- 216 Meters of pure Adrenalin. Next up you ride into Knysna to marvel at the beautiful Knysna Heads. From here you can either take the dirt or tar route into the Mountains. Both option include unbelievable views and spectacular mountain roads, that the Garden Route in known for. You will arrive in Oudtshoorn- the Ostrich Capital of South Africa- in the late afternoon. This will be your home for the next two nights. (Meals: B)

Day 12   Oudtshoorn  Rest Day (0-200km)
Highlights: Garden Route, Ostrich farms, Cango Caves and spectacular mountain passes

Today is a rest day- but there is so much to see and do. You may wish to visit The Cango Caves with its beautiful stalactites and stalagmites or do a tour of a working Ostrich farm- where you will get to feed, touch and hug Ostriches. For those that would like to do some more exciting dirt riding there is an optional ride over the famous Swartberg Pass, this is a bucket list ride for Adventure Bikers the world over and an unbeatable day in the saddle! Other optional activities include Elephant interactions or visiting a local family of Meerkats! (Meals: B)

Day 13: Oudtshoorn - Cape Agulhas (+-350 km)
Highlights: Route 62, Ronnies Sex Shop, Cape Agulhas

After an early breakfast, you make your way to the start of Route 62. The road winds through the Swartberg Mountains and beautiful foothills in their valleys.  Along the way you will get to visit quirky places such as Ronnies Sex Shop and the Karroo Moon motel. Next up, you carry on down to Cape Agulhas- the Southernmost tip of Africa at 34° S and 20°E . Here the ice cold waters of the Atlantic ocean meet the warm Indian ocean, creating a turbulent mixture of untamed beauty. There is always a party at Cape Agulhas, as you celebrate reaching the most southern point of Africa.(Meals:B)

Day 14: Cape Agulhas  to Cape Winelands (+-300km)
Highlights: Cape Winelands, Penguins, Hermanus

Today you make your way to the famous Cape Winelands. Your route will take you to Hermanus- the whale watching capital of South Africa, as well as Betty's Bay, where you will see the South African penguins that live on the beach. The Cape Winelands is a beautiful landscape of vineyards, mountains, and fruit farms. The riding is also world-class with some exciting mountain passes. Tonight you will sleep in the heart of the Winelands, and you can enjoy some local wine tasting and amazing gastronomical delights. (Meals:B)

Day 15: Cape Winelands- Cape Point- Cape Town (+- 180 km)
Highlights: Coastal Roads, Cape Point, Chapmans Peak

Today you make your way to Cape Town, South Africa’s Mother City. This Ride is the highlight of the trip as there are beautiful coastal views with twisting sea views virtually all the way. Highlights along the way include Simons Town Navy Base, Cape Point- the most South-westerly point of Africa , and riding the famous Chapman's peak drive and Signal hill into Cape Town. What a ride!

Day 16: End of Tour (+0-50 km)

Transfers to the airport will be arranged. You can also stay on in the beautiful city of Cape Town for a few more nights, or book one of our famous ADD ON TOURS

This ride is suitable for most motorcyclists. +- 99% of the ride is on good tarmac roads. There are also some exciting off road options on good hard packed gravel roads. Daily distances are relatively short ( >450km) , there are rest days scheduled regularly and there are no long border crossings.
90% of this tour takes place on tarmac roads. The dirt roads are good hard-packed dirt. However, there are some long riding days and long border crossing. Some areas we visit are very rural and the roads sometimes have lots of potholes and other hazards. Need to be a confident rider.
This tour takes places 50% on tar roads and 50% on dirt roads. You need to be an experienced rider both on and off the pavement and have completed at least an intermediate riding course on a big Adventure bike- or have a lot of experience riding adventure bikes in your own country
