SOUTHERN AFRICA

3 Day Weekend- Explore the Mountainous Kingdom of Swaziland

Swaziland is a beautiful African Kingdom, that is completley landlocked by  South Africa. The Swazi people are some of the friendliest in the world- always waving and smiling as our bikes ride past

On this exciting short tour you will get to discover more of Swaziland. Visit Phophonyane Eco Reserve, see the Biggest Rock in Africa, ride through the Valley of Heaven, stop in to see Mantenga Falls and much more!

ITINERARY

Day 1: Pretoria to Phophonyane (+-380km)

Leaving Pretoria in the early morning take a scenic ride east to Swaziland. Weather permitting, you may wish to take the scenic dirt route over Bulembu pass into Swaziland. Once you are in the Kingdom of Swaziland you will notice how the scenery changes. Ride stunning mountain passes as you make your way down to PHOPHONYANE eco reserve where you will arrive in the early afternoon. Enjoy a drink on their beautiful deck overlooking the forest or take a walk down to see the waterfall and perhaps have a swim in their natural pool. (B)

Day 2: Day tour of Swaziland and scenic drive (+-100km)

Wake up at your leisure and take an optional ride to see some of the more scenic areas of Swaziland. Stop in to take in the views over Maguga Dam or Visit the 2nd largest rock in the world: Sibebe. From here you meander down through Ezulwini Valley stopping in at the various craft markets along the way. Included in the tour price is one adventure activity. Choose between Adventure Night Caving, a cultural tour of the Swazi villages or a quad biking adventure through the hills. Tonight you sleep at Mantenga Lodge with its breathtaking views of Execution rock. (B)

Day 3: Return to Pretoria (+-350km)

Before you depart for Pretoria, you may wish to meander along Swaziland’s craft route and visit the Swazi Candle factory- this place is amazing as you can buy handmade candles shaped in an assortment of African animals (they make great gifts) Another good stop is at the Ngwenya glass factory to see their large exhibit of blown glass creations. Here you will see unique crafts unlike any that you can find anywhere else in Africa. Then bidding Swaziland goodbye, make your way back to Pretoria along the back roads of Mpumalanga.  (B)

TOUR DIFFICULTY?

This ride is suitable for most motorcyclists. +- 99% of the ride is on good tarmac roads. There are also some exciting off road options on good hard packed gravel roads. Daily distances are relatively short ( >450km) , there are rest days scheduled regularly and there are no long border crossings.
90% of this tour takes place on tarmac roads. The dirt roads are good hard-packed dirt. However, there are some long riding days and long border crossing. Some areas we visit are very rural and the roads sometimes have lots of potholes and other hazards. Need to be a confident rider.
This tour takes places 50% on tar roads and 50% on dirt roads. You need to be an experienced rider both on and off the pavement and have completed at least an intermediate riding course on a big Adventure bike- or have a lot of experience riding adventure bikes in your own country
